My Fire-y Fourth

Well the title speaks volumes. Literally . . . a fire-y fourth.

It all started with a fight, because my sister wouldn't let my dad shoot fireworks off the deck. Luckily her husband took over, and went far away from the house - and us - to shoot off our small fireworks display. Which allowed us to avoid another catastrophe, and my dad to keep his hands . . . he likes to shoot fireworks off while holding onto them. Mister big-shot-nothing-can-happen-to-me. It's all fun and games until someone (generally not him) gets hurt.

So the fireworks were going well, adorable little 3-year old nephew was enjoying the display, and brother-in-law was risking his life and no one else's, . And then he decided to get a little cocky, and follow in his father-in-law's footsteps. He thought it'd be cool to line 3 rockets up, set them all off, and watch the display in the sky. Unfortunately, we only got to watch one of those rockets. Because when the first one went off, it knocked the middle one down, shooting into the extra dry, brown grass, and causing it to start on fire. In two places. So what, you may ask, happened to the third rocket? Well, the third one went off. Only we were too worried about the fire to even pay attention to it.

My sister and I had to think fast, so we ran through the house to go help with the fire. I remembered some buckets we had in the garage to fill with water, only it would have taken too long to find them and fill them. So what did we grab? Ah yes, the two 2-liter bottles of Sprite sitting on the steps. We both ran down the hill, which of course caused the pop to shake up so upon opening I think we got more on us than the fire. We took over the bigger of the two fires, finally putting that out with the 2 bottles of pop. And my brother-in-law handled the small fire, patting it out with the cover to the fire pit. While of course singeing some hair at the same time.

Oh but the story doesn't end there. The town cop had been driving back down the road, after visiting the housing projects just below our house. He must have seen the fire in his mirror, because he pulled a turn on almost 2 wheels and flew up our driveway. Oh yes, we now had the cop at our house. Luckily we didn't need him to call for backup, our Sprite did the trick. But thankfully if it had gotten out of hand, the fire house is directly at the bottom of our hill - so they wouldn't have had to go very far.

And what did we do after the fire was put out and the cop was sent on his way?? Lit of more fireworks, of course!

The Griswold's strike again! (pictures coming soon)

Bwhaa! Perhaps if you had used soda instead of pop, the fire would have gone out sooner!

JJ!

I can just see how you all were running and then the sprite exploded everywhere. Ha!

Thanks for the comment!

Sounds like an "exciting" 4th, lol. Glad the fire was put out quickly!
